PE119: Gilly Wyatt Smith's Christmas
Photos: Polly Eltes / Narratives

Having spent much of her childhood on the tiny Welsh island of Llanddwyn, off the west coast of Anglesey, for Gilly Wyatt Smith living by the sea wasn't so much a desire as a necessity. Which is why, when she moved to Cornwall after years in Derbyshire and the Cotswolds, it felt very much like coming home.
Solid and staunch, Gilly's four-bedroom stone-and-slate house nestles into the lower slopes of ancient moorland, facing whatever weather is thrown at ot by a broad sweep of the Atlantic in front.
The views go on for thousands of miles and the sense of primeval connection to the land, studded with iron-age settlements and standing stone, is, says Gilly, both thrilling and humbling.
Gill's Christmas is natural and simple, her decorations very much based around greenery from the garden, family heirlooms and hand-made pieces.
