It took a lifetime’s experience and 20 years hard work to convert this barn into a dramatically different home. Jeweller Jinks McGrath and her husband Steve Turner, a carpenter who works for the National Trust, live and work in a cluster of seventeenth-century converted barns in East Sussex. Tucked into rolling countryside just behind the South Downs, the main oak-framed house is a converted cowshed that the couple restored from scratch. When not creating her own distinctive pieces, or helping charities in India or Afghanistan to set up jewellery workshops, Jinks teaches jewellery making in her workshop opposite the house.
