Situated in the heart of Knightsbridge, just a stone’s throw from Harrods, the location of this Victorian mews house couldn’t have been better for Jason and Marisa Marcus. While the location ticked all the boxes, the layout of the mews wasn’t ideal, the biggest bugbear being the fact that the front door opened straight into the living room. So, the couple asked Alison Papworth of Camhall Design & Consultancy to redesign the property, and she came up with a bold plan. A basement level with three-metre-high ceilings was excavated to provide an entire new floor that accommodates a media room, gym, steam room, guest cloakroom and laundry space. On the ground floor, the living room was turned into a large entrance hall that doubles as a formal dining space, and is linked via sliding doors to a kitchen-cum-dining room.
