When you're running three businesses from home, workspace becomes a priority and so it was for Joy and Steve Jolliffe when they were searching for a new place to live. 'Space was our guide; we needed more of it,' says Joy, who created screen-printed textiles. 'We needed a studio for me, somewhere for Steve's graphic design business and enough room to store and pack the vintage and retro items we sell from our online stories - The OK Corral.'
They found exactly what they were looking for on the outskirts of Ryde on their native Idle of Wight; a detached house in a quiet cul-de-sac, with a huge, L-shaped ground floor extension. 'The previous owners had put two rooms on the side and wrapped it round the rear of the property so there was enough room to extend the kitchen, as well as have separate workspaces.' Joy says.
They loved the houses' spacious feel, its proximity to the sea; 'If you look left out of the front bedroom window, there it is!' and its generous, turned staircase, complete with the wrought iron banisters installed when it was built during the 1960's. However, Joy says, it needed a lot of work to make it feel like home.
