Charlotte Gaisford debut fabric and wallpaper collection caused an instant sensation, but then surprises are the Northumberland designer’s stock in trade. She dropped out of university to paint warplanes in Paris for Steven Spielberg’s film Empire of the Sun, moved to Cumbria to open her own interior design and paint effects store, then built
up a successful internet paper business from scratch as a home-based mother of two. Colour, pattern and heritage are at the heart of what she does, and the ideas keep coming. We headed to the border county to see what’s next for her fledgling design business.
Home is an old gamekeeper’s cottage dating from the 1800s where she lives with her husband and two sons. Since buying the derelict property they've extended into cart sheds and stables. Charlotte loved the whole project, designing, converting and decorating.
