In the heart of Rye, interior architect Marta Nowicka has transformed a pre-war St. John's Ambulance station into an elegant, pared back home. Throughout the house, and medieval courtyard beyond, restored bare brick is offset by striking wide oak panels that line all floors, along with the walls of the double height stairwell, bedrooms and downstairs living area. The natural hues and patina of the in-situ cast concrete fireplace base and stairs adds decorative interest and a warm textural contrast, to the pared back interior.
